Your wedding day is full of emotion, beauty, and once-in-a-lifetime moments — and as your photographer, I want to be fully ready to capture all of it in a way that feels true to you. The more I know going into your day, the better I can serve you. So before you walk down the aisle or jump on that party bus, here are 5 things to tell your wedding photographer before your big day!
What moments mean the most to you? Is it the first look with your groom? A tearful prayer with your parents? A private vow exchange before the ceremony?
Knowing what you value helps me slow down and focus on what matters most to you. This isn’t about a shot list — it’s about heart.
This is a big one. If there are divorces, remarriages, special guardians, or family members who shouldn’t be grouped together in photos, please let me know ahead of time.
I want family formals to go as smoothly (and drama-free) as possible, and a heads-up goes a long way in keeping it peaceful.
While I always capture the big stuff — your ceremony, first kiss, and first dance — if there’s something super personal you want documented (like a locket on your bouquet or a moment in your grandpa’s old truck), just tell me.
I’m all about capturing your story, not just a checklist.
Even if I helped build it with you, keeping me in the loop if anything shifts is important. I’ll plan my lighting, lenses, and location choices around the flow of your day.
Even knowing what time hair and makeup starts helps me understand the pace and vibe of the morning.
Are you gifting each other letters? Planning a choreographed first dance? Is grandma baking her famous pie instead of a wedding cake? I want in on it!
Any surprise details — emotional or fun — help me prepare to capture the magic without missing a beat.
At the end of the day, the best thing you can do is be fully present and trust your photographer (that’s me!). We’ll roll with whatever the day brings — whether it’s perfect golden light or a Midwest rainstorm — and I’ll be there capturing it all, honestly and beautifully.
Planning your wedding? I’d love to walk through the journey with you — camera in hand and heart wide open. Reach out here to chat more about working together!
