I’ll be the first to admit that I am a huge hopeless romantic. Whether it be a cheesy rom-com or a cute elderly couple strolling hand-in-hand in the park, I probably have a tear or two in my eye. So when Emma and Ben inquired with me for their downtown Fargo wedding at the Sanctuary Events Center, my heart nearly doubled in size. The love between these two has been something I’ve been witnessing for years. Documenting this beautiful chapter in their love story felt like just a full-circle moment, and I couldn’t be more grateful for these people.
There’s something so special about photographing a couple whose relationship you’ve gotten to witness from the early parts. Emma and Ben’s relationship is no exception. I first met Emma when we were both working at our college newspaper at Minnesota State University Moorhead. Emma and Ben shared similar majors; so you can already guess where this is going! The chemistry between these two is beautiful. Being in the presence of a couple who is truly each other’s best friend is exactly why I love what I do so much. But enough of that sappiness – let’s get into their perfect wedding day!

The wedding day began with the gals getting ready at the dreamy Jasper Hotel in downtown Fargo. Between laughter and lots of tears, Emma was surrounded by the most supportive, empowering crew of ladies. Emma’s Essence of Australia dress was literally everything. The ethereal lace detailing and long train complimented the romantic, whimsical cornflower blue color palette beautifully. I absolutely loved the groom’s attire; Ben wore a cornflower blue checkered suit coat, a floral tie, and khaki slacks. While I’m all for a classic black suit, Ben’s attire was the perfect way to pull the entire vibe together.
After traveling the short distance to the Sanctuary Events Center, Emma shared an emotional first look with her dad. A father-daughter first look is a surefire way to bring tears to my eyes in an instant. After the sweetest first look between Emma and Ben, they were able to sneak away to the for a private vow exchange. Once everyone had gathered themselves again after shedding some tears, we headed back to the Sanctuary Event Center for bridal party portraits. It’s no wonder that Emma and Ben had a large bridal party, so we had just a blast with interactive prompts.

The “I do’s” came and went with a short and sweet ceremony before the bride and groom were “kidnapped”! Yep, you read that right. It’s so much fun when couples opt to do things a little bit differently for their wedding days. And let me tell you: Emma and Ben did exactly that. Before the reception began, the bridesmaids snagged Ben to head to a bar downtown. Simultaneously, Emma was snatched up by the groomsmen. The friendships between everyone made for such a fun experience, and it was such a great way for everyone to get to mingle.
Emma and Ben’s downtown Fargo wedding at the Sanctuary Event Center wrapped up with the traditional dinner, sunset photos, and dancing the night away. As much of a country girl as I am, I loved the urban vibes for their sunset bridal portraits in the middle of the street. My heart is still so full looking back at this day. Even though their day was just a month ago, I’m already giddy just thinking about all the love stories yet to document this summer!
